September 13, 2019

HIS RACE COVERED, WALKED TO THE COUNTER, DEMANDED MONEY FROM THE CLERK AND TOOK OFF WITH THE CASH, BUT NO ONE WAS HURT. NOW TO YOUR TAX MONEY. AT WORK TO EXTEND LIGHT RAIL INTO VIRGINIA BEACH. CITY COUNCIL HAS GOTTEN ITS THIRD LOOK INTO HOW THINGS ARE GOING. BUT WHAT IF VOTERS TELL THE CITY TO KEEP GOING? JASON IS FOLLOWING THE MONEY IN THE RESORT CITY. JASON: THE GOAL WAS TO TRACK LIGHT RAIL MONEY TO MAKE SURE IT IS BEING PROPERLY SPENT. THERE WAS NO DOUBT IN WILL’S MIND WHERE THE MONEY WAS BEING SPENT. THE MAYOR HAS FOUGHT FOR THE LAST DOUBLE OF YEARS TO BRING THE TIME TO VIRGINIA BEACH. I TRULY BELIEVE IF WE LOOK AT VIRGINIA BEACH 25 YEARS FROM NOW, WITHOUT THE MULTIMODAL TRANSPORTATION SYSTEM, WITHOUT, I DO NOT THINK WE WILL BE LOOKING VERY GOOD. JASON: CITY COUNCIL TODAY WERE UPDATED ON LIGHT RAIL SPENDING. THE AUDITOR SPENT THE LAST THREE MONTHS TRACKING THE CASH FLOW. THE REASON WHY WE WANTED TO LOOK AT IT IS TO PROVIDE ASSURANCE TO MANAGEMENT, TO COUNSEL, AND, OF COURSE, OUR CITIZENS. THEY WANT TO KNOW HOW MUCH WE HAVE SPENT. JASON: LYNDON CALLS THE AUDIT VERY POSITIVE. HE WAS ABLE TO TRACK THE MONEY SO FAR SPENT THE CITY. $15 MILLION SPENT BY THE OLD NORFOLK SOUTHERN TRAIN ROUTE. THE REST OF THE MONEY WENT INTO MINOR STUDIES AND FEES. IF WE DO NOT HAVE THE PROCESS IN PLACE UPFRONT , THEN, YOU KNOW, WE CAN SUDDENLY, SO TO SPEAK, GO OFF TRACK. JASON: THERE ARE SOME IN THE CITY WHO DO NOT PREFER TO SEE LIKE REAL GET ON TRACK. THEY BELIEVE THE ADDITION HE SPENDING MONEY ELSEWHERE. THERE ARE NO BENEFITS TO THE CITIZENS OTHER THAN A LARGE EXPENSE, HEAVY TAX LOAD, AND AS SUCH, IT OFFERS THE CITIZENS NOTHING. JASON: IN THE END, IT WILL BE UP TO VOTERS TO DECIDE IF LIGHT RAIL ROLLS INTO THE 80. THAT VOTE WILL TAKE PLACE IN NOVEMBER AS PART OF A REFERENDUM. THE MAYOR SAYS IF THE PEOPLE SAY YES, THEY WANT LIKE RAIL, THESE EDDIE WILL HAVE TO PROTECT $150 MILLION OFFERED BY THE STATE BECAUSE IF NOT, BY DECEMBER 31
