Union Pacific to fix Monte Vista railroad crossing

August 12, 2019

HWAY 99. KCRA 3’S LETICIA ORDAZ IS LIVE, WITH IMPACT IT COULD HAVE FOR STANISLAUS STATE STUDENTS HEADING TO CLASS. LETICIA: EXPECTED TO HAVE A HUGE IMPACT. UNION PACIFIC WAS IT — WAS SUPPOSED TO BE HERE IN OUR AGO. WE ARE STILL WAITING FOR THEM TO ARRIVE. YOU CAN SEE THE EQUIPMENT ALREADY HERE. ACCORDING TO THE CITY, THEY DID A RUSH REPAIR JOB BACK IN AUGUST. THEY ARE BACK THIS WEEK TO TRY TO GET IT RIGHT. TAKE A LOOK. WE WERE HERE IN AUGUST WHEN CLUE — WHEN CREWS CLOSE THIS THOROUGH FAR AT MONTE VISTA AVENUE. CREWS WANTED TO REPLACE TRACKS DEEMED UNSAFE BY UNION PACIFIC. APPARENTLY, WORKERS RAISED THE TRACKS MORE THAN THEY WERE SUPPOSED TO AND MISALIGNED THE CONCRETE PANELS, MAKING IT A BUMPY RIDE FOUR MONTHS FOR COMMUTERS. AFTER GETTING CONGRESSMAN JEFF DENHAM INVOLVED, TURLOCK SAYS UNION PACIFIC HAS AGREED TO FIX IT WITHOUT CHARGING TAXPAYERS AGAIN. COMMUTERS ARE URGED TO PLAN AHEAD THIS MORNING AND PLAN ON TAKING ALTERNATE ROUTES. THERE WILL BE A CLOSURE HERE SOMETIME THIS MORNING UNTIL THURSDAY. EXPECT SIGNS. THEY ARE POSTED THROUGHOUT THE CITY. WE ARE STILL WAITING FOR THE ROADWAY TO OFFICIALLY CLOSE, BUT DO NOT COUNT ON IT FOR YOUR MORNING COMMUTE.
