Massive CSX 4 locomotive freight train! We were Amtrak railfanning and BOOM! A CSX engine appears!

    November 4, 2019

(train signal ringing) – [Man] I hear some bells. (train horn blaring) – [Child In Striped Shirt] I
like that (mumbles) it’s CSX. – [Man] Oh, oh look at that! It’s a 902. He snuck out here, didn’t he? (laughing) (logo whirling) Hey Fun Engineers, if
you really love trains and you’re crazy about Minecraft, hit that subscribe
button and ring the bell so you get notified on every
single video that we do next. That’s an ES44AH, that’s a super cool one.
    – I like doing (mumbles) I like doing 2000 (mumbles) – Whoa that’s a double cool shot. Look at that! How lucky are we there? Hey kids, that’s what the coolest thing about rail fanning on track side is that you just never
know what’s gonna happen like suddenly a CSX just
appears right beside you. (upbeat music) Oh look at that, he’s in the front! (laughing) (steam hissing) Comin’ out. Did you know that? – I didn’t know that they could do that. – [Man] It has a door in the front. (steam hissing) I didn’t know it had a door
in the front like that. (upbeat music) That’s amazing! – CSX needs a wash. – [Man] He does need a wash, doesn’t he? All right kids, this is how you do track side train spotting. You camp out and you wait
until the train takes off. We’ve been here for 24 hours. (buzzer buzzing) We’ve
been in here for 5 days. (buzzer buzzing) 15 minutes? (bell dinging) You think it’s gonna take off soon? You think so? It’s green, you can see
it right down there. (train horn blares)
(train bell rings) (upbeat music) – [Child In Striped
Shirt] It’s moving slowly. – [Man] That’s a big one, isn’t it? (train bell rings) Wonder what he’s pulling? It’s kinda like a mystery, isn’t it? See what he’s pulling. – [Child In Striped
Shirt] He likes pulling. – [Man] What do you think he’s pulling? (train bell rings) – There’s another–
    – Oh it’s another one. – Whoa.
    – Whoa, that’s exciting! (train bell rings) Do you think there’s
three trains or just two? Oh, look! It’s three! Wow, it’s three trains! And three engines! – [Child In Striped Shirt] He got what? – [Woman] CSX 392 – [Man] Do you think
    it’s gonna be a 4th one? – [Woman] 41, – Oh my goodness,
    – 78. – [Man] there’s a fourth one too. – [Alex] Oh that’s an old style one. – [Man] Look at that one. – [Alex] Is that a super old CSX? – [Man] Wow, Yeah. – [Younger child] Look there’s train cars. – [Man] Yeah, look at all that. – [Alex] Is the darkest one the first CSX? – Yeah, it might be, Alex.
    – How come there’s– – [Man] It’s the original one – [Younger Child] There’s train cars. Lots of train cars. – Wow that’s
    – Hey guys. – [Man] super tankers huh? How many cars do you think this has? Since it’s a four locomotive train how many cars does it has? What’s your guess? – Four thousand. – [Man] Four thousand. – I mean four hundred. – Four hundred. Comment below if you know. (upbeat music) That was so awesome. Did you guys enjoy that video kids? That was super fun. Thanks so much for coming along with it. Alright kids we’ll see
you in the next video right over there.

Freight Cars: Train Talk Ep. 13

    October 18, 2019

Hello everyone and welcome to Train Talk! In the 6th episode of Train Talk, I discussed
different types of freight trains. I did not, however, discuss all the different
types of freight cars, and there are many. So today, I’m going to talk about all of
the common freight cars you can see out on the mainline today and what purposes they
serve. Let’s get started! Box cars are some of the most basic and versatile
freight cars you will see on the main lines today. They are quite simply, a box on wheels with
sliding doors on each side for loading and unloading. While they were in the past used for hauling
finished products to market, they are now primarily used for hauling raw materials to
factories. Everything from coffee beans to paper can
be found inside of a box car. Some boxcars have also been modified with
refrigeration units on one end. These are called refrigerator cars and are
used for transporting fresh produce, all while staying nice and cool. Another very important type of freight car
is a hopper car. Hopper cars exclusively carry uniformly shaped
raw materials such as coal, grains, or even plastic pellets. These materials are loaded from the top of
the car and discharged through hatches on the underside of the car. Hopper cars come in two types: covered and
open top. The covered hoppers also have hatches in the
roof of the car so they can be loaded. Materials that can be damaged in transit by
being exposed to the open air, such as grains, are carried in covered hoppers while materials
that do not need the extra protection, such as coal, are carried in open top hoppers. The next type of freight car is a gondola
car. These cars are similar to an open top hopper
car, except that they have a flat bottom with no hatches and the sides of a gondola are
typically much shorter. However, you should note that the only real
distinction between a gondola and a open top hopper car is that a gondola car has a flat
bottom with no openings. For example, some gondola cars used to haul
wood chips have sides that are actually taller than most open top hoppers. Gondola cars must be loaded and unloaded from
the top. They almost exclusively carry raw materials
such as rocks and scrap iron, but occasionally they carry larger finished products. Gondolas are often used for carrying large,
heavy steel coils, usually with a rounded protective covering over the top. We’ve moved slowly from freight cars with
sides and a roof to open top cars with shorter sides, so the next car we’re going to talk
about has no sides at all. These cars are called flat cars. Flatcars are used for carrying larger items
that need to be tied down. They can carry everything from construction
equipment to tractors, and even airplanes in some cases. However, one of the most common types of flat
car you will see is called a center beam. Center beam flatcars have a raised central
beam running the length of the car. The beam is used for tying down materials. These cars are used pretty much exclusively
for hauling wood products like boards of plywood. In addition to the basic types of flat cars,
modified flat cars are also used for carrying truck trailers across the country as part
of intermodal trains. Tank cars are used for transporting various
liquids. They are loaded through a round opening located
on top of the car and unloaded through piping located on the underside of the car. These cars transport a variety of different
liquids including crude oil, refined petroleum, paints, and more. Now, we come to one of two types of cars that
exclusively carry finished products. The first is a car known as an Auto Rack. These cars are used for carrying brand new
automobiles. The cars are very tall and have either two
or three levels for storing vehicles. Modern auto rack cars also have a roof and
sides for protecting the vehicles as they are being moved. Some of these cars are also articulated. Finally, we come to the last car for this
episode, the well car. Well cars are similar to flat cars, but they
are used specifically for hauling shipping containers, and are modified just for this
purpose. These cars, when loaded with shipping containers,
are used for intermodal freight service, “inter” meaning between and “modal” as in the
different modes of transportation. These are the most common freight cars you
will see today because the shipping containers they haul are so versatile. They can easily be moved from one form of
transport to another and they carry most of the finished good you buy in the store: furniture,
televisions, games, home appliances, and more. While they are the most common type of freight
car on the railroad today and their use is not likely to decline any time in the near
future, they cannot completely replace more traditional types of freight cars, as these
are all essential to the national freight rail network. Well, that does it for this episode of train
talk. Thanks for joining me! There are some unusual types of freight cars
as well, but these are often just modified versions of the basic freight car designs
I mentioned in this episode. If you enjoyed the video, let me know by liking
it and leaving a comment below. Also, if you haven’t seen it yet, be sure
to check out the episode of train talk on different types of freight trains. For those of you who haven’t already, be
sure to subscribe to the channel so you are notified every time I release a new video. That’s it for now. Until next time, I’m Mike Armstrong. I’ll see you down the line! Thanks for watching.

    August 30, 2019

All right, we’re on Anyway, here’s the second part of the Downey’s scenic, um You can see the train coming in the distance You’ll have to apologize guy says this is when the second day which is later in this video. I am pretty tired I kind of mess up What I was saying and you know, I apologize for that in advance but anyway, uh Yeah We got a little bit of a surprise for you this video is a little shorter than the last one, but we’re gonna try them to keep them is you know the regular 20 So minutes 20 25 30 minute period somewhere in there anyway enough chitchat. Let’s get it rolling There’s really wanna be anyway Can’t get it up on the railroads Choose available videos lots of abandoned lines in Nova Scotia No, yes No like to okay Yeah, there’s a buddy of his that does abandoned videos on the Newfoundland railway What’s his name girl, yeah Turn into a boy. Try name of I don’t lead haven’t come across him Yeah, but getting ready we’re gonna move right Five others Let’s get seperated wheelset over and well We do love the time with a lot easier to get to go take real fat. I was like So this building is new from when I was here last summer I don’t think that was here then You Yeah, yeah One of the Pistons drive business Oh Shit Gee ii remember going on there saying climbing all over So it was put there after retirement it last ran in 54 so sometime after that probably not long after that, okay, okay Important Reeth railings right away isn’t Rape and friggin. Wait just hate that with the time son of a bitch. There’s a paper mill That’s Bucksport that gets real service Or at least it did Some white stoic you don’t think earth Hey folks, we’re back. I’ll just uh heading to place we’re going to be staying for the night We’re not going to say anything until we get there it’s a surprise And we’re real family. Tell you we’re about to go over a big bridge That’s going to scare the crap out of rail fan and don’t were to make one of them Doesn’t I purchase Don’t feel bad. I walked over that a Trussell and Which Michalek knows? How do you think I feel? Well, that was your choice. Yeah, you chose to do that, right? You’ll be fine do it for the folks at home everybody’s counting on you Folks at home can go to hell. Hey now. Oh Shit pretty Newbridge this is kind of nerve-racking Pretty high freakin bridge, too Wow, okay, this is a little bit intimidating That is an old fort like that it’s probably as high as mcdonald mckay bridges back lovely The old bridge was right on here you can think that’s the pier there Other side of the yeah going to see it It was beverage was a little lower Oh, yeah, there’s the old bridge nice view the other major Well, that’s a nice rock cut right there that must’ve took a long time to do This is our secret location City point on the Belfast and Moosehead Lake They’ve got an open-air car, too Hello folks Lord Drake, and I um we’re in the caboose Give you a little quick. Look I’m gonna show you too much right now. But uh, Anyway, this is the end of the day one. We’re both exhausted and we’re calling it a night Anyway, we’ll see you guys tomorrow and until then. Have fun, right? Morning, folks. We just got up. It’s what day – and hunt tired so railfans gonna do the touring around 8:30 in the morning, maybe sunny day We’ve got van number well buggy as they call them down here caboose number 640. This one was built in December 1976 This is the the one we stayed in And This is a more modern one here Yeah, no, he’s got the lube plate there. It’s got a bill date of uh, looks like 218 Just zooming in on that there So look Yeah, 100 years old Well, it looks like it must be some kind of sheathing over wood or something that’s my guess One here got a nice bird nest built in 1964 And there’s a bunk car over on this side looks like it’s got a knotty pine interior Now I thought that these tracks had been laid by the Brooks Preservation Society, but it turns out that they were used they were Laid by the by the railway the Belfast and Moosehead Lake, but the the group actually put in this cross over And this 350 foot main central box cars here that have had their Friction bearings switch to roller bearings at some point bill date of 1951 And we’ve got a flanger here With a bay window Belfast Moosehead Lake number 23 And Are one of the 70 tenors number 51 In the original livery And the the group had actually just found out yesterday was going to put in a whole barn up here And they laid the foundations for it But the city said they had to build it as a proper building kind of thing and Would cost three hundred thousand so they decided they weren’t going to do that So now they’re looking at alternatives for a shop It’s too bad they went through the trouble and expense of putting starting this foundation Vintage you Ask railfan and I just came across the caboose in the works, huh rail fans over there taking pictures of it Rail fans impression of a catalogue so what would happen if the cat and a train horn? Not a baby it would sound something like this No No No now So we’re going to go and get cleaned up and then we’re going onto an expectation for vacation destination is I’ve already told you guys and Oh, man Our rail fans get started to Catherine Oh, ow You’ll see the site
