August 28, 2019

hello ladies and gentlemen RailROL82
here so we’re coming up on the Northwest 12th Avenue crossing and the CSX
downtown spur Miami downtown spur see the pavement markings and the sign okay so this is Northwest 22nd Street
I’m gonna include a Google Maps into this location and just a few feet away
from me we have the crossing that right there is the Metro Rail it’s an
above ground light rail system passenger train and then here we have what we came to see so here’s the emergency contact info CSX S line sorry S line
extension downtown milepost 442 and that’s the crossing number we have an MI cantilever, those are WC hayes lights e bell WC Hayes gate mechanism I think that’s a WC hayes base as well I’ve never seen this before here that
sticker and then the lights are yeah WC hayes, you see those visors were cut off
well they were cut off because of the gate the gate would interfere with them today
as I said this was uh a my modern industries and then you got the lights
over there my favorite visors and this is the spur
itself it’s facing east towards Miami, see some
voodoo right there I’m gonna try to cross over here what you hear there is the metro rail this is facing west and this side we
also have mi lights they look to be incandescent, MI cantilever safe tran signal base WC Hayes gate mechanism electrocution hazard emergency contact info the lights two tracks cross bucks see the
E bell in the background and the Rico lights on the crossing gate Also MI lights, see the metrorail all righty guys so yeah give you a track view again here track view west there’s the switch thank you for viewing, please subscribe or like. take care over and out

At 3:31 you see the new Hitachi cars on the Metrorail (heavy rail). Also, I think this is the spur they use to run around their train. If the train is too long, they leave cars spotted on what could be a team track next to the junkyard and/or at CBI. A few weekends ago, there were five boxcars on the spur east of 22nd avenue. I think for a food distributor. Also, there is an abandon spur just south of there, but I think you covered that already. You are right, the spur is service during the overnight hours. Although I've seen them in the daylight too recently picking up gons at the junkyard. I'm gonna check it out one day to see how many customers are left. I think a minimum of three. Thanks.

Great video Roly! Man that's a busy area! Some of the side walks are really skinny by those buildings too! Do you know how much rail traffic that gets? It looks like not a whole lot. Great video again!

I knew you would cover this crossing eventually! I'm going to get my computer hooked up tomorrow, so expect the video this Wednesday!

Before I moved, I had a railroad crossing four miles away from me that had the electrocution hazard sticker on the gate bracket.

Hey RailROL82, I did some more research on the downtown Miami spur and found some more interesting details. The track that crossed the diamond at NW 1st Ave and NW 11th St curved into a private right of way between NW 11th and NW 12th streets and ended at a wharf where the Perez Art Museum is. Based on historicalaerials, the docks had been demolished between 1969 and 1980. The other spur (the remaining one), used to branch off where the American Airlines Arena currently stands. One more thing I should is that the railroad bridge spanning across the water was moved North to South.

  • Reply Mel Perry May 7, 2018 at 5:39 am

no trains have run on that track in
decades, way too much rust, where does the west start at? and
where does the east end? or vice
    versa, 🙂

  • Reply Mike P May 7, 2018 at 1:17 pm

Good stuff! One of those areas that you have shown us that remains fascinating, I guess that the bulk of the yard that was to the southeast of this video was covered over by I-95. But the traces that remain, like the building that sits inside of the block formed by NW 6th, 7th, 26th and 27th. And the curved drive on the grounds of Booker T. Washington school that looks like the roadbed that ran through it. Keep it up!

So how close are those power lines above the gates? Was hoping for a good shot of that, since it seems they're close enough to touch each other.
