Perea joins HSR board of directors, pledges to get the bullet train back on track

October 14, 2019

HENRY ANNOUNCING ON FACEBOOK THAT HE ACCEPTED A POSITION AS BOARD OF DIRECTORS FOR HIGH SPEED RAIL. HE JOINS US ON SUNDAY MORNING MATTERS. THERE WAS ALWAYS SPECULATION THAT YOU MAY RUN FOR MAYOR ONE MORE TIME. THIS CAME UP. IT WAS ON THE SENATE SIDE OF THE AUTHORITY AND IT TAKES A PROCESS TO GET THROUGH THE VETTING PROCESS AND PUTTING IT ON THEIR CALENDAR. SO WHAT EXACTLY ARE YOU GOING TO DO? I THINK IT IS INTERESTING AND THE PERSPECTIVE THAT I BRING IS A COUNTY SUPER VISOR AND SUPPORTIVE OF HIGH SCHOOL REAL. AND THAT IS NOT AND GETTING THE JOB DONE. THERE IS MISSTEP AND CONSTRUCTION AND COMMUNICATION. THIS WAS A MEMBER OF THE BOARD AND THAT IS TO GET ON BOARD AND GET ALL HANDS ON DECK AND GET IT DONE. WHAT I REALLY LIKE IS THE PIVOT THAT GOVERNOR NEWSOME SAID AND HE WENT FROM 119 MILES THAT IS BUILT WITH FRESNO BAKERSVILLE AND EXPAND IT TO 171 MILES. HAVING SAID THAT. IT WAS FROM THE BAY TO LOS ANGELES? THAT IS A GOOD ONE. AND EVERYONE KNEW FROM DAY ONE. IT WAS IN THE PLACE TO TRAVEL 220 MILES PER HOUR IN THE VALLEY. AND THAT IS L.A. TRAINS AND IN TERMS OF MAKING SURE THE SYSTEMS ARE READY TO CONNECT. I GET THAT. BUT THE HIGH SPEED RAIL HAD TO GO BACK TO THE STATE AND ASK FOR MORE MONEY AND ASK FOR MORE TAXPAYER MONEY AND THEN STATE LAW MAKE ARES TAKE A PORGDZ OF THE MONEY THAT WAS GOING ON TO BAKERSVILLE AND PUMP THAT MONEY AND TAKE IT AWAY FROM THAT AREA AND PUT IT IN L.A. AND PUT IT IN THE UPGRADE. THEY HAVE TO GO BACK TO THE DRAWING BOARD IT GET MORE MONEY? A LOT OF DISCUSSION IS A REAL TIME ONE. AND THAT IS IN THE NEXT FEW MONTHS AND RIGHT NOW, WITH WHAT WE HAVE IN THE BANK IS $20 BILLION TO BUILD 171 MILES. WHILE THAT IS HAPPENING, THERE ARE SUFFICIENT FUNDS TO CONTINUE THE PROCESS IN THE BAY AREA AND LOS ANGELES. WHILE AS WE PREPARE FOR OUR MEETING NEXT WEEK. WE’LL MAKE TWO ENVIRONMENTAL ADVANCES IN THE REPORTS FROM SAN FRANCISCO TO SAN JOSE AND THEN JAN JOSE TO MERSET. IT IS NOT HAPPENING IN THE VACUUM. A LOT OF DECISION MAKING AND WORK HAPPENING AS WE BUILD THE INFRASTRUCTURE. A LOT OF PEOPLE ARE WONDERING IT SEEMED LIKE A YEAR AGO, IT WAS A BIG UNVEILING AND THERE WOULD BE BULLET TRAIN AND HOUSING AND BRICK AND MORTARS COMING IN AND YOU KNOW, BIG NAME INVESTORS COMING IN. IS THAT STILL HAPPENING IN HOW MUCH OF WHAT YOU ARE DOING WILL BRING THAT TO LIFE? I TELL YOU. ONE THING IN COMING ON BOARD TO THIS AUTHORITY, ONE THING I HAVE A STRONG REPUTATION OF GETTING THINGS DONE. I WORK OFF CRITICAL PATHS AND I AM NOT A MICROMANAGER AND CERTAINLY WHEN THE STAFF ASKS FOR DIRECTION. WE ARE TALKING ABOUT APPROVING THE AIR FOR THE OTHER SEGMENTS IN THE BAY AREA. I WILL BE VERY FOCUSED ON WHAT IS THE CRITICAL PATH AND TIME LINE TO MAKING IT HAPPEN. YOU HAVE SLIPPAGE, YOU LOSE TIME AND YOU HAVE TO GET IT DONE AND DELIVER WHAT WE PROMISED TO THE PEOPLE OF CALIFORNIA. SO FAR THAT HAS NOT HAPPENED. YOU ARE RIGHT. SO HOW CAN YOU SIT HERE AND SAY IT WILL HAPPEN. BCAUSE I WILL BE ON THE BOAD AND WE HAVE A GOOD BOARD. YES, PEOPLE HAVE DIFFERENT OPINIONS AND MAYBE WHERE SOMEBODY SHOULD GO HERE AND THERE. BUT I DON’T THINK ANYBODY IS NOT — EVERYBODY IS FOCUSED. AND THE TRUMP ADMINISTRATION HAS TAKEN AWAY SOME OF THE FEDERAL FUNDS AND NOW THEY ARE LOOKING TO GET WHAT THEY HAVE BEGIN THE STATE AND GET THAT BACK. HOW INVOLVED WILL YOU WITH THAT? THAT’S A POLITICAL DYNAMIC THAN A BUSINESS DYNAMIC AND BOTH DISCUSSIONS ARE HAPPENING NOW. LONG- TERM AND CERTAINLY THIS COUNTRY HAS TO HAVE A DISCUSSION ON WHAT IT BELIEVES IT SHOULD DO WITH THE AREA OF PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION. LOOKING AT AUTOMOBILE, WE ALL NEED AND SUPPORT. A LOT OF THE TAXPAYER DOLLARS GO INTO THAT. GO INTO AIRPORT AND NOT EVERYBODY FLIES PLANES. THAT IS AN INTREGAL PART. TRANSPORTATION BY RAIL AND BUS IS NOT THERE YET BUT WORTHY OF INVESTMENT. CONGRATULATIONS AND HENRY, APPRECIATE YOUR TIME. IT IS THE TWEET THAT MADE US BREAK OUT WITH BITTER BEER FACES, NEXT.
