Hampton and Kempton Railway opens for the season

January 12, 2020

Darent is in steam again It’s mid March and the first passengers of
the year set off for a ride at the Kempton Steam
Museum. While the line was closed a lot to the
track has been relayed to give a much better ride.
The museum’s locomotive Darent has just passed its boiler inspection
steam test with flying colors. So everything is up and running for the
new season. Over the winter the loco has been
completely stripped down and serviced it’s now running better than when it arrived last summer. The opening weekend saw a lot of visitors but there will be room for many more in
the coming months The railway will now be open every Sunday and a few
other days until the autumn with all the volunteers dressed up again for the new season Everyone is welcome to come for a ride and
see the train running whenever it in steam. So, check the website for the prices and
running times before you set off.

Thanks for your kind words Marc. The film about preparing the loco on a steaming day is something I've planned for a long while. It will happen when I get the time – I'm busy with some safety videos for the museum staff at the moment (sorry, you won't get to see these) so I've not had the time to shoot it. The footplate ride is a good idea – keep watching, you will see it one day.

Good luck with the 5" gauge.
