Gov. Scott riffs on budget, light-rail, medical marijuana

October 14, 2019

6:44. JOINED BY NONE OTHER THAN RICK SCOTT. GOOD MORNING. OTHER THAN SAYING HELLO TO ME, WHAT BRINGS YOU INTO TOWN? JOBS. WHAT DO YOU EXPECT? LAST WEEK WE TALKED ABOUT JOBS AROUND OUR PORTS AND HOW WE’LL DON INVEST. THIS WEEK IT’S SMALL BUSINESS. THIS MORNING WE WILL TALK ABOUT ALL THE THINGS WE CAN DO TO GET MORE JOBS. ACCORDING TO THE CHAMBER, OVER 80% OF THE JOBS IN THE STATE ARE TIED TO SMALL BUSINESS. WE WANT THEM TO GROW AND ADD MORE JOBS. WE CALL IT THE LIFEBLOOD OF THE ECONOMY. SO YOU’RE TRYING TO INCENTIVIZE LOCAL BUSINESSES MEDIUM AND SMALL, CORRECT? WE WANT THEM TO GET STARTED AND GROW. I ALSO WANT BIG COMPANIES TO MOVE HERE. THE THING ABOUT SMALL BUSINESSES, ONE THING I WANT DO IS A RISK-REWARD. IN 1927 IT WAS $25,000 TO CROSS THE ATLANTIC. WE HAVE PRICES FOR THINGS WE WORRY ABOUT, WATER QUALITY, WATER SUPPLY, INFRASTRUCTURE, CANCER RESEARCH, THINGS LIKE THAT. I WANT TO DO THAT. ALSO I WANT TO GET ALL OF OUR STATE COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITYIES TO HAVE BUSINESS PLAN COMPETITIONS TO INCENTIVIZE ENTREPRENEURSHIP. LET’S TALK ABOUT WHAT YOUR CRITICS ARE SAYING ABOUT YOUR ECONOMIC POLICIES. A COUPLE DAYS AGO ONE OF THE STAFF MEMBERS FROM THE CHARLIE CRIST CAMPAIGN, YOUR LIKELY OPPONENT IN 2013, SAID, AND THIS IS A QUOTE, “HEART BREAKING TO SEE HOW RICK SCOTT’S POLICIES ARE LEAVING THE MIDDLE CLASS BEHIND. PEOPLE WHO WORK HARD SHOULD GET AHEAD. IT’S WRONG FOR RICK SCOTT TO CUT EDUCATION AND HEALTH CARE IN FAVOR OF TAX BREAKS FOR BIG CORPORATIONS.” THAT’S HOW THE CRIST CAMPAIGN IS CHARACTERIZING YOUR ECONOMIC POLICY. WELL, CHARLIE CRIST IS BIG ON TALK AND NO ACTION. HE LOST 832,000 JOBS WHEN HE WAS GOVERNOR. 832,000 PEOPLE LOST THEIR JOBS. I’M FOR WORK. THAT’S WHAT’S GOING ON. WASN’T THAT FROM THE 2008 FEDERAL GOVERNMENT DOWNFALL? WAS THAT ALL THAT WAS GOING ON? FLORIDA WENT FROM ONE OF THE LOWEST UNEMPLOYMENT TO ONE OF THE HIGHEST WHILE HE WAS GOVERNOR. 832,000 PEOPLE LOST THEIR JOBS. NOW, IN THE LAST THREE YEARS, WE’VE ADDED 600,000 JOBS IN OUR STATE. WE HAVE A RECORD FUNDING FOR EDUCATION AND STATE COLLEGES AND RECORD FUNDING FOR UNIVERSITIES. RECORD FUNDING FOR TRANSPORTATION. PEOPLE ARE GETTING BACK TO WORK. HOUSING PRICES ARE UP. WE’RE HEAD IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION WHILE WHEN CHARLIE CRIST WAS HERE HE LEFT A HUGE BUDGET DEFICIT. SO WE’RE HEADED IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION. YOU’VE GONE FROM BUDGET DEFICIT TO NOW. A $77 BILLION RECORD BUDGET IN THE STATE OF FLORIDA. TALKING ABOUT THAT BUDGET, IT SEEMS TO ME YOU’VE GOT SOME BIG DECISIONS TO MAKE. WHAT TO CUT, THOWCH CUT AND WHAT TO LEAVE INCH HOW DO YOU DECIDE WHAT TO LEAVE IN A $77 BILLION BUDGET? WELL, THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IS PUTTING MONEY BACK IN YOUR POCKET. $500 MILLION IN TAX CUTS. $400 MILLION WAS A CHARLIE CRIST TAX INCREASE ON MOTOR VEHICLE REGISTRATION. THEN I GO THROUGH THE BUDGET LINE BY LINE. I HAVE UNTIL JUNE 4th. WHAT’S GOOD FOR THE STATE? WHAT’S GOOD FOR THE RUSH FOR YOU YAO AS A TAXPAYER. THAT’S HOW I LOOK AT IT. A RECENT TAX WATCHDOG GROUP FOUND THERE ARE TAX TURKEYS, ITEMS IN THE BUDGET THAT WEREN’T VETTED IN PUBLIC BY THE STATE LEGISLATURE. ARE YOU GOING TO GO THROUGH THE BUDGET AND IDENTIFY ANY WASTEFUL SPENDING? I THINK ONE IS A FOUNTAIN IN WEST PALM BEACH THAT TAXPAYERS ARE PAYING FOR. I GO THROUGH EVERY LINE AND SAY WHAT’S THE RETURN FOR THE TAXPAYERS? IT’S YOUR MONEY. THE MOST IMPORTANT TTING THIS YEAR BECAUSE $500 MILLION TAX CUT FOR FLORIDA FAMILIES TO PUT MONEY BACK IN YOUR POCKET. SO YOU CAN AFFORD A HOUSE OR CAR, PUT FOOD ON THE TABLE. I REMEMBER WHAT MY FAMILY WAS LIKE STRUGGLING TO STAY IN THE HOUSE WE WERE IN AND MY PARENTS LOSING THEIR CARS. HIGH-SPEED RAIL IN FLORIDA STARTING TO GAIN STEAM AGAIN. AT FIRST YOU REJECTED FEDERAL MONEY TO HELP BUILD HIGH-SPEED RAIL, BUT NOW YOU HAVE PLEDGED OVER $200 MILLION TO HELP SUPPORT ALL ABOARD FLORIDA. WE RAN A STORY THIS MORNING, RESIDENTS ALONG THE COAST ARE NOT TOO KEEN ON THE IDEA OF A HIGH-SPEED RAIL ZIPPING BY THEIR HOMES. WHAT DO YOU SAY TO THEM? FIRST OFF, THIS IS A 100% PRIVATE VENTURE. THE STATE IS NOT INVESTING IN IT. WE’RE NOT PUTTING YOUR MONEY UP. WHAT I DID ASK ALL ABOARD DO SIT DOWN WITH THE RESIDENTS ALONG THE TRACKS AND GET THEIR FEEDBACK. UNDERSTAND WHAT THEIR CONCERNS ARE AND ADDRESS THEIR CONCERNS. THIS IS A 100% PRIVATE, TOTALLY DIFFERENT THAN THE FEDERAL PROJECT. ARE YOU FOR IT OR AGAINST IT? WELL, IT’S A PRIVATE COMPANY. THEY GET TO MAKE THE DECISION. IT’S THEIR TRACK. BUT YOU ARE SUPPORTING IT, RIGHT? WELL, IT’S A PRIVATE COMPANY. THEY GET TO DECIDE. CHARLOTTE’S WEB, HAVE YOU SIGNED IT YET? I HAVEN’T CYBERRED IT YET, BUT I’M GOING TO SIGN IT. HERE’S WHAT I THINK: I’LL MAKE SURE YOUR FAMILY GETS THE HEALTH CARE YOU NEED. AT THE SAME TIME, I WANT TO MAKE SURE IT’S SAFE FOR OUR CHILDREN. THIS IS PRIMARY FOR OUR CHILDREN THAT HAVE EPILEPSY. SO I’LL BE SIGNING THIS, BUT I REALLY CARE ABOUT MAKING SURE IT’S SAFE FOR YOUR CHILDREN. FINALLY, WE’VE BEEN SEEING A DIFFERENT SIDE OF YOU LATELY, A NEW AD THAT HAS AIRED SHOWS YOU WITH YOUR GRANDSON, IS THIS CHANGE IN YOUR STRATEGY BECAUSE AT FIRST YOU CAME OUT SWINGING AT CHARLIE CRIST WITH TAKE ADS. NOW ALL OF SAUDEN YOU’RE SHOWING YOUR SOFTER SIDE. IT WAS SO MUCH FUN TO SHOOT THE AD. HE’S TWO AND A HALF YEARS OLD. HE WAS FINALLY SAYING, GRAND PARK LET’S GET TO WORK. LET’S SIT THERE FOR 30 SECONDS. I THINK HE WAS EATING CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES. SO MUCH FUN. I HAVE TWO DAUGHTERS, TWO SON-IN-LAWS AND THREE GRANDKIDS. I WANT THEM TO LIVE THE DREAM LIKE I DID. I GET TO LIVE IN A COUNTRY FROM PUBLIC HOUSING TO THE GOVERNOR OF THE GREATEST STATE IN THE COUNTRY. GOVERNOR RICK SCOTT, THANK YOU FOR STOPPING BY TODAY. A REMIND GOFER RICK SCOTT AND HIS EXPECTED OPPONENT. DEMOCRAT CHARLIE CRIST WILL BE PART OF A LIVE DEBATE THIS FALL AND YOU CAN ONLY SEE IT RIGHT HERE ON WPBF 25. IT ALL HAPPENS ON THE CAMPUS OF

Scott is out of touch.  There are far more money in legal cannabis than there will ever be in the law enforcement.of it.
