I do hope that you have eaten something more in Tokyo after such a long train trip! I like Japanese castles – I should go to Hikone (not so far away from Nagoya).
But now I go first to bed (it is 01.21am here….)

Wow, I'd love to live in Hikone.. beautiful city, and has fresh tsukemono!! My son and I love tsukemono of any kind. Thanks for making this video.

This is exactly the kind of video I like to see! Japanese cultural heritage sites and any foods I may have not seen. You know I wanted to go to that pickle shop, I could try everything there. I showed my wife the section on the castle view from the top and I said imagine the view when this castle was built 400 years ago, nothing but beautiful green! We have nothing that old in the USA built by Americans as we are known now, but there are sites built by the native peoples that are pretty old, only fragments remain and nothing so well designed and astounding, mostly burial sites. Japanese architecture is so elegantly simple looking, but so complex.

How wonderful! I'm hoping to take the train everywhere I want to go in Japan outside of Tokyo, including Osaka! Were so many places closed because it was a weekend?

  • Reply Thomas Santin December 6, 2015 at 12:03 pm

I think I would have been stuck at the top of the castle haha, all the surroundings looked so amazing and I'ts a shame not much was open for you guys 🙂

Thanks for the video. Now i'm considering visiting Hikone! My friends and I are planning to go to Osaka and Tokyo next year, hopefully i will manage to plan a Hikone trip in between. Will definitely do research for Hikone on which train to take. Thank you.

  • Reply Dazedi December 11, 2015 at 12:36 pm

Awesome video as always. I'm actually taking the local trains from all the way from up north down to Nagoya around christmas using the seishun 18 tickets, and then next day to Kyoto! I read that it takes almost 12 hours only to Nagoya so I bet it's going to be exhausting, but I'm looking forward to the experience.

  • Reply RavenOfBlackness December 11, 2015 at 3:31 pm

The more I watch your videos, the more I wish to visit Japan! Unfortunately, neither time nor money allow me to do so. 🙁 So it's only a dream.

We visited Hikone Castle too on our trip to Japan just two weeks ago!
It's a really nice place and the castle is beautiful and a great cultural sight! You should also have visited the castle gardens.
Your videos are great! Greetings from Germany!

I just found your channel and have been watching all of the videos, but imagine my surprise when I finish watching one video, and suddenly you're in my city in Japan!

I used to live in Hikone going to school at the Japan Center for Michigan Universities back in 2001 and again in 2004. It's been 12 years since I have been back, and I miss Japan and Hikone terribly.

    Natsukashii naa~

Omg, I cannot wait to come visit Tokyo next year!!!

  • Reply Mono gram adikt July 30, 2018 at 12:02 pm

just one question ? it seems like you traveled the whole length of the trip by connecting local trains ? did you have to buy a single ticket that allowed you to travel from osaka to tokyo ? or did you have to purchase a new ticket at every station where you had to change trains ?
