Then there's poor old Toronto. A transit system still stuck in the Dark Ages.

    I'm Japanese.
Tokyo have two subway company. There is Tokyo Metro and TOEI Subway (Tokyo Metropolitan Transportation)
However, these two subway companies together have only 13 lines.
This video shows that there are many subway lines in Japan, but these are also counted not only by subway lines, but also by private railways and national railway (JR).
However, it is true that subway trains and railways in Tokyo are busy.

Actually, Tokyo Metro is in posession of 9 Lines.

    Fukutoshin
    Marunouchi
    Hibiya
    Tōzai
    Chiyoda
    Hanzōmon
    And Namboku

Other Lines Shown In the video are Operated Also By Tokyo Metro, but as the Line-Through Services, And Co-Operates With Tobu, Tokyu, JR East, Toyo, Seibu, Odakyu and Saitama Railway Corporation.

Some Line-Through Services made by Tokyo Metro and private operators in Tokyo Area & Saitama Preferecture Like Saitama Railway Line. Are infact, the continuations of tokyo metro's Lines, Like Saitama Railway Line is a continuation of The Tokyo Metro Namboku Line

This video is a trash. You included RER lines on a paris map but excluded it on statistic showing only 16 subway lines and 200 km of tracks, which is without the RER system, the RER is already twice as big as a subway. Also many other misleadings. Nyc subway has 27 lines, DEFINETLY not 36. And you included ALL of railroads in Tokyo. Which is not the subway. Tokyo doesn't have over 4000 km of subway lines. Especially if Nyc subway has the most stations from all of the cities in the world and that video shows totall lies. If you included all of railroads in Tokyo why you didn't included the whole railroad system from new york like LIRR and metro north? Do not believe in "top 10 videos", search for a real informations from legal sources.

If excluded a few lines with a few hundred kilometers in Chiba Prefecture, the least frequent services in the Tokyo metro system are 2 to 3 trains per hour with 2 to 4-car train, which seem to be no less than those of other metro system.

Why was some wack nyc regional transit map used instead of the official one? Squishing everything together makes it more complicated and removes the geographical context. The official map is also using the official colors which makes the lines easier to look at. The video is also supposed to be subway maps, not subway+commuter rail

  • Reply Ho-soul station August 18, 2019 at 8:56 am

It is best to be refered about TOKYO as greater Tokyo area not as Tokyo metrilopolis. The railway network of Tokyo is spreading very widely. In a Occidental conmonsence of Metro train, railway lines such as JR Yamanote,Keihintohoku,Chuo-Sobu,Joban,Chuo rapid,Sobu rapid and so on.
But if you including those lines,Western Area of Japan known as Keihanshin would be mre chaos. That is the megalopolis with four million cities.

  • Reply Luka Kralik September 11, 2019 at 3:57 pm

But you are counting railways too. For example Prague (only cca 60km of underground routes) should have around 150km of rails if we count the s-lines (similar to german or austrian s-bahn). I'm sorry for my horrible english and i hope you understand what i meant.

  • Reply ZHIYI WANG September 13, 2019 at 9:00 am

Japanese railway system(including JR/metro/private railways/Shinkansen and so on) is the most convenient and efficient railway system I have ever seen.

  • Reply Rein Pinebook September 14, 2019 at 11:44 am

japanese rail lines are overlapping rail lines. think of an odakyu train can run to a jr tracks by passing through tokyo metro chiyoda line.

  • Reply Metros September 15, 2019 at 12:49 am

That Tokyo map is half wrong and half right.

Actually the map includes other private railway companies, so no all of them are Tokyo Metro.

However, all the commuter trains in Japan are subway-style trains (do they say “rapid transit” in other countries?), so in that sense, probably it can be considered as subway.

Tokyo Subway including Metro and Toei is about 190 km, it's 4000 only if you count all the JR Lines, Keikyu Lines, Seibu lines, Tobu lines, Tokyo Monorail, Yurikamone, Keisei and all. If so, then you must also count Paris RER along with Paris Metro, London Overground along with the Tube, Long Island Railroad, Metro North and Path along with New York Subway then your ranking could be called accurate. Otherwise, it's like you are forcefully trying to make Tokyo look so complicated and confusing
